I visited a major souk (an outdoor commercial market) a few weeks ago called khan al khalili. The area was saturated with small shops, coffeehouses, restaurants, and street vendors. The hustle and bustle vibes of sales men and the decorative colors that leaped from one end of the road to another made it all seem like a festival.
Odd story: so as I went about window shopping items, both vendors and sales men tried persistently to get my attention as they blurted out the few phrases they had memorized in English with hope to entice me into making a purchase.
Here are a few of the rather "creative" names shouted out at me so as to lure me into their shops...
-"Hey you Obama"
-"Ms. Obama"
-"Marley"
-"Bob Marley"
-"Shekolaatah" (chocolate)
-"Brownie"
-"Jamaica"
-"Sista"
I responded with a slight chuckle each time, and was slightly more surprised with each new name... It was a VERY long day
